Objectives My objectives as an instructor is to engage students about the subject matter and to get them to think critically about the problems in math and related fields. Math is a fascinating field and I want my students to share my passion for math.
Methods When teaching math I found that students often have a fear or dislike of math. I want to help my students overcome their fear or dislike of math. In my math for elementary education class it was important to have hands-on activities that the students could use in their own classrooms. Through AMSTI (Alabama Math Science and Technology Initiative) I was able to organize a field trip to an elementary school where my students presented a math fair to school children. We used reading reflections of articles in math for elementary teachers as a way to articulate and verbally explain math to schoolchildren. In my calculus for business majors’ class it was important to teach business applications because the students now see how math is used in business. I use teaching strategies that help students learn from their peers and explore how to leverage technology in the classroom. In my classes students will experience effective classroom engagement. I am passionate about providing students with adaptive resources that help them achieve their best academic potential. I help ensure that every student gets the support they need to be successful. Digital learning removes limits and gives teachers the freedom to provide education anytime and anywhere, empowering students to overcome their most difficult challenges.
Rewards The rewards of teaching are when my students are inspired to succeed in spite of their own shortcomings. I am excited when a student who failed a math course previously makes an A in my class. I see myself as an instrument in enriching the lives of my students. Teaching at University of Alabama is a dream come true for me.
